Modelling the risks of lane-changing on adjacent sections of tunnel entrances

The entrances of tunnels are generally considered to be accident-prone locations, and accidents related this area mainly include rear-end sideswipe crashes, which also associated with lane-changing behaviours. Despite the extensive literature on safety lane-changing, little attention has been given behaviours in front tunnel entrance. To end, study investigates contributing factors potential risk status taking into account scenarios distance entrances. Vehicular trajectory data adjacent sections was collected by naturalistic driving tests, 615 were extracted for analysis. Furthermore, margin (LCRM) is proposed estimate whether there at during lane-changing. verify influence entrances, a mixed logit model established different levels estimation results indicate that leading vehicles current lane target (defined as CLV TLV, respectively) significantly affect presence increasing probability performing risky approaching entrance, while TLV instead reduces behaviour. entrance significant impact higher relatively close distances than long distances. Moreover, drivers change lanes left, likely safer left. This implies may try achieve better conditions before entering changing view complex inside tunnel.
